If you are reading this After Action Report, you are evidently interested in training from John “Shrek McPhee.” I took his Carbine Marksmanship Course on May 13, 2017. I will tell you now that his credentials are sterling. His methods are state of the art. His use of video coaching software will let you see exactly what you are doing wrong that otherwise would not be detected by the human eye. He then will coach you in detail how to correct your form and function. The result will be speed and accuracy beyond what you could do just hours before....

1-Day Pistol, 1-Day Carbine Course: May 12-13, 2017

When you’ve been through enough shooting instruction you’ll realize it’s all really about the basics. The pros, the guys that have BTDT are simply better at the basics than everyone else. There aren’t any Jackie Chan, secret squirrel techniques or info they alone hold close to the vest like, say, the Clinton body count. I got to train and learn from one of those BTDT guys last week and left with my eyes wide open. After a storied career in Special Forces, John “Shrek” McPhee has been working the training circuit for 5 years (I believe) - honing his teaching...

Recently, I attended a 1 day pistol diagnostics class with John. I am a veteran, current LE/SWAT officer and an A class shooter in USPSA. Additionally, I have taken other open enrollment classes in the past. For this particular class I decided to bring my father along, who is a retired LE officer. In the 35 years since his initial firearms training, his form has deteriorated to the point that he was having struggles maintaining acceptable groups on target at 10 yards or greater. Using my training and experience, I have attempted to fix his form to no avail. Then...

Having never taken a shooting course of any kind before, I was relatively unsure of what to expect. I had an overall idea of what was going to transpire. Initially, I expected the course to be for the utmost low level, never having fired a carbine of any variety before. It was not that at all. Most of the other attendees were rather advanced shooters and had a pretty good idea of how to handle the AR pattern of rifle.  I’ve been around and shooting the AR-15 pattern rifle for roughly around 12 years and I know how to manipulate...

1-Day Carbine Course: May 13, 2017

"This is a must course for all shooters regardless whether you're military, law enforcement, or a civilian. Technique is everything which enables shooters to adhere to the fundamentals. The video analysis that is done for each student breaks the shooter's technique down in a constructive way which allows improvements to be made from any experience level. This invaluable approach the SOB takes is why the round count isn't high. High round counts don't mean so much to me now. The SOB's teaching method is straight forward, however he gives constructive criticism well and doesn't patronize the class. Expect video analysis...
